Background

Cittadinanza Kenya is seeking a committed and experienced Field Officer to support the implementation of programs promoting the inclusion, wellbeing, and rights of persons with disabilities and individuals experiencing mental health conditions in Nairobi and Kajiado Counties.
The Field Officer will play a key role in supporting the implementation of field activities, engaging with communities, and supporting the monitoring of interventions.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, highly motivated professional with solid experience in disability field and/or mental health rights with INGOs and/or OPDs and predisposition for field work, capable of adapting to uncomfortable environments with strong ability in developing relationships with partners and other project stakeholders.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of field activities related to disability inclusion and mental health support.
  • Facilitate community awareness sessions and stakeholder engagement on issues of inclusion and stigma reduction.
  • Organize and facilitate trainings under different projects
  • Support the identification and referral of persons with disabilities and individuals with mental health needs to appropriate services
  • Produce terms of reference and activity reports for each activity implemented.
  • Conduct regular assessments and data collection in project sites
  • Ensure that all field activities are implemented in line with the organization policies.
  • Prepare, Confirm and scan all activities supporting documents.
  • Collaborate with project beneficiaries, key stakeholders, project team and project partners while ensuring the implementation of the activities and the principles of inclusiveness and accessibility in all the activities conducted
  • Ensure information are easily accessible, available, ready for use
  • Support with preparation of communication and visibility materials (e.g. flyers, banners)

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Disability Studies, Community Development, Development and Cooperation or related field
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in community-based programming, ideally in disability inclusion or mental health
  • Good reporting skills
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English and Swahili (spoken and written)
  • Respectful and compliant with organizational rules and procedures

Competencies

  • Knowledge of disability rights, community mental health, and inclusive development approaches
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Good understanding of local context and community dynamics in Nairobi and Kajiado
  • Ability to work independently and travel frequently within project sites
  • Positive attitude towards community work

Additional assets

  • Skills in data collection and research is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of UNCRPD, ICF, Models of Disability, CBID/CBR, and kenyan national policies in disability
  • Basic knowledge of project cycle management
  • Knowledge of Braille and/or Sign language
